Facility
The Rise School of Houston is located at
5618 H. Mark Crosswell, Jr. Street
Houston, TX 77021
In January 2000, Rise opened with 17 children, tucked into an office building space generously loaned to us from the Texas Children’s Hospital. For over a decade, families flocked to our little school, and children blossomed in our classrooms. From day one we were full, so to address demand, we added classrooms until there was no room to grow. Still, demand for our program far exceeded our capacity, so we undertook a bold plan to build our own facility from the ground up.
In fall 2011, thanks to the support of many Houstonians, the new Rise School of Houston opened in a beautiful building at Highway 288 and S. MacGregor in the Texas Medical Center. Our cheerful brick and bright blue building, surrounded by playgrounds, beckons visitors from the freeway. Our new facility has 10 classrooms, outdoor and indoor play spaces, and therapy spaces. The school doubles our capacity to serve 100 of our city’s youngsters born with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities every year.
Texas Children’s Hospital and Texas Medical Center generously donated project management services and land respectively to make this building possible while Bellows Construction and FKP Architects donated construction management and design services. Brenda and John H. Duncan, Sr. along with many generous individuals, foundations and corporations made cash gifts and grants towards the construction and furnishings.
We invite you to come experience The Rise School with your own eyes on a personal tour of our facility. To learn more about Rise or for a general tour please contact Ashley Kress, Director of Advancement at 713-532-7473 or [email protected].
